Not yet, been really busy with a new job. When I find time I'm gonna replace both front wheel bearings and see if that helps. The sound hasn't gotten worse, so I'm thinking the guy who owned the truck before me replaced them wrong.

I'll keep you updated.

Whenever I read someone with a noise from the front end they can't find I think of the brake dust shield/backing plate.

Similar, but not exactly. The sound mine makes is paired with the speed of the wheels - like a rubber on metal sound. It also gets louder/more consistent the longer I drive (as if the rubber is expanding?) Above 30 mph or so you can't hear it, but sure does make people look when I'm breaking for a stop sign. I took a video of it just like you've done. I will find time to upload it hopefully tonight.

Yeah, that's what bugs me cause it hasn't gotten worse. Maybe wasn't greased enough/correctly? I hope I can find time soon to take it apart.

Its a sealed unit. Its a pita to remove unless you have a good set of snap ring pliers. I need to pull mine off and grease everything (cv axle seal and axle shaft)

Yeah, I've gotta get a reverse hammer right for the seal? Is it possible it's cracked and therefore dried out inside?

I have a 99 4x2 and had a similiar sound, replaced the wheel bearing and no more sound. I would def check the wheel bearing. My truck has just under 160k, HTH.

No problem. When I did mine I found a metal shaving (not sure where it came from) and a piece of plastic off of the hub bearing. I still need to do my passenger side.
