Default parking brake light on even with brake off?

the other day i got in my truck started it up,clutch, put it in reverse and pulled my parking break..and the light for it that usually goes out stayed on? and is constantly on even when driving, ive tested to see if the brake is still on/grabbing(stopped in my drive way with a slight down-grade and put the truck in neutral and put the parking break on,it stayed put then disengaged it,the truck rolled in reverse)..so what the hell is causing this as lights that arnt supposed to be on annoy me.

Sounds like the brake switch is stuck. Look at you parking brake mechanism, closer to the firewall there is a switch, see if its hung up.

No problem keep in mind that the location I gave is from what I have in my truck, the location may be different in your '94. Try a little 3-in-1 oil or wd-40 to loosen it up.

Check your brake fluid level in the reservoir... the brake light remaining on when the parking brake is off is a sign of a braking issue, low fluid or broken component.

Both of those^ are possible. But for me the E-brake(pad i guess?) was stuck on the drum. It was not stuck enough to work and stop the truck from rolling. But just enough so it was barely touching.

I took my tire off and the drum cover and with a few gentle taps with a rubber mallet, to the pad it broke loose. I guess it was slightly corroded on there.

And it worked for me. I also tightened the line a little.

Hope you get it fixed

On some vehicles, the brake light serves two purposes- when the e-brake is engaged and when the brake reservoir is low on fluid.

No way... really? So THATS why my "brake" light illuminates under both circumstances. This post has been brought to you by sarcasm.

Completely wrong

Your e brake ain't a hydro its a cable running to lock your drums, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH FLUID.

Your switch is just stuck like the first dude said.

Are you kidding me? We've already CLEARLY established that the parking brake and the braking system are separate.. but the dummy light on the dash illuminates under both circumstances (whether the parking brake is engaged OR there is an issue with the braking system)

Then again, what do i know? I'm just an ASE certified mechanic...

Hahaha

Anyway, the drums are activated by a cable only when using a parking brake. Otherwise, its all hydraulic. Put your foot behind the pedal and pull it toward you while pulling on the parking brake release handle. If the pedal pulls forward and the light goes off, then you have slack in your emergency brake cable. You can either take off your wheel and adjust it with the star wheel adjuster inside the drum, or go in reverse and slam on your brakes to adjust it.

Lol, thanks. Pretty simple. Just release the E-brake. Put a towel or something over the line, cut it a pair of dikes. And then simply use the "the adjustable thing" and thread the wire through it. The i used like U bolts to hold the folded wire.

Simple. I bought all the stuff at Lowes.

Im not that good at explaining stuff, but if you have any questions or photo request let me know.
