Default Burning smell and a little smoke?

Okay, my truck is driving just fine, it DOES have a small oil leak but its not too bad. Today i was driving and when i parked and got out i smelled a burning smell. Wasnt a chemical smell like oil or tranny fluid. It was like really hot metal smell. When i opened the hood to investigate, i could see a very faint smoke coming from the block. I checked my all of my fluids, they were all fine. My oil pressure is also fine. No CEL. No lights at all. And like i said, seems to be driving just fine. Any suggestions what it could be?

Was it raining or did you have the AC on? Could have been water on something hot

That's what happens when you leak oil onto hot parts.

..the oil leak is coming out of the oil pan gasket on the bottom. its not leaking on hot parts on the engine block.

it was raining until about noon today and it was pretty dry after that....i drove it home from work after 5....the roads were dry. AC wasnt on because i dont really have any cold AC left

Could have been water that was sitting somewhere from the rain and the dripped out while going up a hill or something and if the AC wasn't on it wasn't water from that. Only other thing I can think of is a wire or hose shifted and was on a hot part. Was the engine running at a good temp?

If there is smoke coming off the engine block, then something leaked out onto it. There are only two fluids up there to leak out. Coolant and oil. Both smoke and stink when they cook off on hot engine parts.

So look where the smoke was, and look above and in front of that spot. Find your leak.

Timing cover gasket? Mine leaked, and it smelled like nasty ass burning coolant.

umm i could barely see it, so i cant really tell where it was...but i guess towards the back of the block

And my coolant seems pretty much where it always was. So baffling!

Not a brake, i just had just about anything you can think of a brake/brake line done to my truck about 3 months ago

Drive it around again in dry weather, if it doesn't happen again the it was rain water. If it does then trouble shoot.
