Exclamation Squilling P/S Pump...What helps??

1998 4.0 xlt. My p/s fluid was dirty, and it squilled a little.so I did the flush thing, then NAPA gave me regular p/s fluid instead of Dextron. Little to say I did drain and put Dex into the pump...But now it squills even more, tolerable but allitle annoying..ANY REC'AMONDS . DAN-Arvada,CO 1-31-10:

sounds like it may be time for a new pump. but first i would go with what the factory recomends. drain and flush the system again and add dextron. my 2cents though if that doesnt slove the problem then id be looking for a new pump

It's a ford. They all make noise after awhile. You could replace the pump if you want but if you can put with the noise, that pump will last a long time. Prolly for as long as you have the truck. I once got stuck in my old 2wd ranger and during the process my p/s pump got so hot that the fluid actually came out of the top of the res. and was all over the engine. The pump was actually knocking. lol. I filled it back up and drove it for another 150,000 miles with the pump making a whining noise. Then I sold the truck.
