Pumping Gas - Bad valve?
Well I got myself a Ranger on Monday! W00t! So far everything appears to be going great. But I found a little annoyance that I definitely want to fix asap.
Pumping gas at the gas station takes forever! I am constantly dealing with the auto shut off cutting off the fuel. So I have to baby sit it constantly. I can go ever so slowly and it won't seem to stop. It took me 15 minutes to get about 9 gallons in today.
Anyone have any issues like that? It seems to me like it would just be a part right inside of the fuel door/opening. Anyone think it is easy to replace myself or should I just take it to a mechanic?

Re: Pumping Gas - Bad valve?
Did a bit of my own research on it. Seems like the fuel filler neck might be the culprit? Anyone had to change that before?

Yeah, those are common to fail on rangers. They are fairly cheap though, 30-40$. The tough part is getting it in. Either drop the tank, or if you have some other things to fix take off the bed. I took my bed off and got it replaced within an hour.

Might as well do a Bl while you have the bed off!

Looks like I will pick one up soon. Not sure about the $30-40 though. Cheapest I could find was this one.
Of course, I haven't called any junk yards but I don't want a used one. Not when it's fuel I'm dealing with.

Yeah no reason to get a used one. I have a 95 and for some reason the price is half of what you found. Beats me why they jumped the price.

Re: Pumping Gas - Bad valve?
You can try to pull the nozzle out a inch or two.
The bed needs to come off to get this done easily.

this. i found that there's a sweet spot to get it to fill without shutting off. you have to find where it is on yours, but for me i have to pull the nozzle out to the point that it almost won't begin to pump. if that makes sense...

Re: Pumping Gas - Bad valve?
My 2011 does the same thing.
Do you live in cali? or a state that has those stupid emission boots on the nozzle? Thats the culprit, not your truck.
I just took a trip to Nebraska and back and in every other state where I filled up I was able to walk away and not have it shut off. And guess what, they didnt have those stupid boots.

It's like a woman. You can't have it all the way in. But if you have it out a bit, so it can angle a bit, like you're tilting it up, you can pump as much as you want in.

I'm in Utah. I have no idea if they have the boots as you mentioned. I have been playing around at the pump and I just can't find any spot to make it work.
