Can't recharge A/C system
Hi, I'm new here but have found lots of useful information on this site. Thanks everyone.
I have a 1995 4cyl Ranger and I've replaced all the O rings on the A/C, plus and entire new low side hose (I think that's what it's called). Anyhow, I'm ready to recharge the system, so I buy the r134, start the engine, turn on the air full, and start to fill it. It seems to start to charge, the can gets cold, then the gauge reads full. Like I think it's maxed at 100psi or something. That can't be right. The whole system was empty and the can still is nearly full. The filler hose snaps easily into place, it's all the way on the filler connection on the right side of the engine (if you're facing front) so I know I'm filling on the right connector. Some r134 went in because the can got cool for a moment, and there is a little green oil around the connector.
Any ideas? It's as if something is blocking it.
thanks for your clues.

Re: Can't recharge A/C system
Ok, I'm an idiot. I realized that the new high side filter thing that has the other port on it doesn't have the 2 pin connector that the old one had. So I plugged the connector back into the old hose I kept, and the compressor fired up and it charged fine. So, I'm past that problem but I don't know what to do with this connector since there is no place on the new one to plug it in. I guess I could just drive around with the old hose hanging out from under the hood, but there's got to be a better way? Thanks

Re: Can't recharge A/C system
Ok, so everything works fine now. I have cold air and I don't think anything is leaking. However, in order to keep the compressor running I had to chop the filter thing off the old hose and plug the loose connector into it's old spot on the filter (I think that's what it is, that little cylinder about 4 inches long). I just stuffed it off to the side and everything seems fine. I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do with that connector because the new hose I got didn't have any place for me to plug it in.

He didn't correct anything !! He got lucky for awhile but he'll be back wondering why he's back at square one.
He had a open system and didn't change the receiver/drier and he didn't vac the system!!

If I'm right what I think he is talking about is his hi pressure cutout switch. As he is repairing the results of that choice he can do the dryer and the evac all at the same time..

Yeah, I guess that's the high pressure cutout. here's some pics of the old one and the new one.
What's going to happen if I didn't vac out the system? If I take it someplace and have that done will I loose the coolant I put in the system or can they reuse that?
Thanks!

Yeah, your going to lose the freon if you have it done. They save it to be recycled. You Vac. the system to remove moisture and air, this also tells you if you have any more leaks by seeing if ti holds a vacuum for a while.
If you would have remove that black cap on the new hose ,would have seen that high pressure switch needed to be installed there.
If you click on the link you'll learn the basics, in fact I would subscribe to his channel and you'll learn alot of car repair basics..

Thanks for the help and links, I'm subscribed to that guy's channel now.
Lost all the freon so I guess I still have a leak. I learned a lot, but maybe next time I'll save some money, this time I'm paying the learning tax and having to take it to a pro in the end. Oh well, won't be first time.
