2007 4x4 suspension/4x4 maintenance Q's?
Hey Guys,
Pretty simple question, but being new to trucks, what is the general maintenance we have to do? I have been searching google, etc.. but still not clear. Newer trucks seem to be needed less then older ones, so maybe that where my thoughts come from.
Anyways, i have a 2007 ranger 4x4 xlt. is there genral stuff i have to do, like lube the suspension? CV joints or anything with the 4x4 system? I know the obvious stuff, like oil, filters, blahh (not new to cars/bikes)... but is there anything truck related you would do more then a car?
my truck has 50K miles on it, if that matter... sometime i get a sound like a humming, which i thought was a wheel bearing, but had it looked at and it fine, anything like a 4x4 part?
just trying to make sure im doing what i need to for my baby!
let me know please...

If you have an owner's manual, follow the recommendations in there. If your under carriage or drive shafts have grease fittings, grease them every oil change. If you don't have and owner's manual, get one and a Chilton or Haynes repair manual. They aren't that expensive. You can get the owner's manual on the Ford site for free. A Ford repair manual would be best but at $120, well...

Re: 2007 4x4 suspension/4x4 maintenance Q's?
I just bought a 2011 Ranger, and looked on line (Amazon.com) for a repair manual but could not find one for a 2011. What previous year manual would apply (presuming that Ford made no significant changes for the final model year).

2010 should be fine. The '10s had the anti-lock brakes and trac control.

If there are any, they would be on the upper and lower ball joints, the outer tie rod ends, and the drive shaft u-joints but only if they have been replaced with parts that have grease fittings.

Nope, only thing that has been replaced on the truck since new is the tailgate handle, transfer case shift motor, passenger side wheel hub, brakes, plugs, wires and filters. And the drivers side has been replaced once and painted three times.
But no drivetrain parts other than the front hub has ever had a problem.

It's really just basic stuff. Not too much different than a car, maintenance-wise anyway. As far as the humming, check your power steering fluid. Just a thought, it really could be any number of things.
