Default I am in need of a little help.

Is there any way to avoid buying the complete pre-made performance intake package K&N makes for these trucks? I dont have $250+ to spend. Even a cheaper brand of performance air intakes would be helpful to know. But my main problem is i already built in a Spectre cold air intake but my engine wont run with the MAF sensor plugged in and of course the truck isnt going to run 100% right with the MAF sensor not plugged in. I dont want my stock intake in either, Im doing this strictly for better gas milage since my mpg's arent top notch due to my engine being 235,000+ miles old. Any links, Prices, Idea, or people selling their own intakes will be accepted.

Thanks.

Sell your Ranger and buy something that gets good gas mileage.

They aren't stupid, or sarcastic comments. This has been asked a few thousand times..and the FACT is, you bought a truck, if you're going to try and get good gas mileage, then invest in a small 4banger car and use the truck when you need it.

Otherwise, enjoy driving your ranger.

There is a how-to around here somewhere about removing the silencer out of the stock airbox. Doing that and using a drop in K&N filter might be what you are looking for.

Why does everybody have to hate on someone for asking a question? Just because the question has been asked by OTHER PEOPLE doesnt make HIM stupid or dumb for asking it. Yes, he did buy a SMALL truck because he figured it would get a lil better gas mileage than a big truck, just like 90% of you guys probably did. He even stated that he needed a truck, so theres your reason why selling the truck isnt an option. The funny thing is, you guys hate on people for asking the SAME questions you asked maybe last year, last month, maybe even last week. Grow Up! people, if you dont have any advice for the guy leave it for people who do. Advice is still good weather it steers him in the direction of a kit, or away from even trying. This is a good Fourm, make it a little better by being nicer to people. The guy your dissing on now just may be the guy that drives by when you are broke down somewhere, and before you make a comment saying "My ranger NEVER breaks down", i hope its true but it doesnt matter what brand you drive they all break. And the poor guy asked the question because gas is Expensive, we all know it. Now to answer your question, I personally would not try and do a Cold Air Intake, i would spend the money you would for the intake on a programmer to pull better MPG.

This should work pretty well for you. The inside of the stock tube is pretty smooth like the K&N tube, it's just rubber. Removing the silencer does allow more air into the air box. Adding a K&N replacement filter to the stock system adds enough air but not too much that your MAF will not allow the engine to run. Also, Pull the MAF out and spray it with some carb cleaner. DONT PUT THE CAN TOO CLOSE, the pressure can break the little wire. Allow it to completely dry then reinstall it. This gets all the crap off and allows it to work properly. Replacing your O2 senser isnt a bad idea either. Clean you throttle body near the butterfly valve and adding some seafoam to the tank should help too. Make sure your idle air bypass is good (it will make a funny sound once in a while if it is going bad) and make sure the seal is good and the bolts are tight. Good Luck.

get off your soap box. thanks to an invention called google, every aspect of this truck is easily accessible. nothing is a secret, including the gas mileage.

Very well said! All of this "do a search" nonsense accompanied by smart, snide remarks got old for me a long time ago. Nobody's asking you to open this thread. If you can't offer any help, don't reply. Simple as that. But that's what you have to deal with on a forum full of 16-20 year olds, who have probably had their trucks purchased by mommy and daddy. I remember a thread here a few months back where someone bragged about being a "senior member" because of their post count. :-/ An internet forum can be overwhelming to someone who's not used to using them, even to the point where searching can be difficult. I'm new to this particular forum, but not new to other forums that I'm on. On one of the forums I frequent, nonsense like that wouldn't fly at all. It's as if some of you guys get a high from being rude to others. In short, what I'm trying to say is: grow the hell up.
