Default Key cylinder malfunction

The wife calls me this morning and tells me the ignition key cylinder will not allow the key to fit in but about half way. I'm thinking tumblers are bad, any ideas on cost to replace or ability to be fixed? By the way this is on her 02 Escape.

just remember, if the door key also works the ignition, (with it being a ford, it does), you will have to replace the door locks also if ignition is truly bad.

$150 to reset the tumblers. Not bad if you ask me.

Default Re: Key cylinder malfunction

Parts store and buy replacement lock, take to locksmith to rekey with ignition key.

I rekeyed many of these in the lockshop.

There really is no need to rekey all the door locks if you can live with two keys-if you dont want to spend more money.

The ten cut keys actually use the first five, or was it six, cuts from the bow of the key to open the door locks, and the last 5 or 6 towards the end to operate the ignition. The middle 5,6,or 7 intertwine to make a "combination" type key that allows the key to work all the locks.
