Question What RPM does yours run?

I am just curious to see what some of you think as far what RPM's I'm turning on the highway. About my truck:

2001 Ranger Supercab, 4.0 v6, Automatic trans, and stock rims/tires on it.

At 70-75 mph on the highway, I am turning about 2600 RPM's. In a way, to me, this seems a little high. Most vehicles I've owned w/an overdrive trans have dropped to about 2300 RPM's or in that range, in overdrive, same speed.

I know that your RPM's can be varied by gears, tire size, etc. I know that overdrive works because 1) I've counted the shifts, and 2) when I hit the "OD OFF" switch on the column shifter, my RPM's will jump to about 3000.

I can turn 3000 RPM's in my hot rodded '89 Chevy Caprice w/a small block and TH350 trans, and that has 3.73's and 28 inch tall tires on the back end of it, and that will put me in the ball park of 70 mph or so, if I'm on the highway (speedo don't work right now :P).

I'm just interested in seeing what other STOCK Ranger owners are turnin on the highway at similar speeds.

I'm in the same range. It's normal, and IMO, I don't think that's all that high considering the speed.

My 4.0 Ranger turns about 2500 at 75 with 3.73's under it. My wifes expo with 4.0 and 4.10's runs about 3 grand at 75.

Gosh...that's low. lol. These 4.0's LOVE rpms!! They get really economical at higher rpms.

Now, my truck sure ain't stock, but at 75mph, I'm pulling right at 2800rpm in 5th. 80, right about 3000. 19mpg too. All this on a truck with 7" lift, 4.88's, 35's, 5spd manual, and the 4.0 sohc. And don't worry....my scangauge is showing speed accuratly to compensate for the 4% faster reading.

Alot of variables will be shown in this thread. lol.

I'm not overly concerned about it. Just is higher compared to vehicles I've owned/driven in the past. But if its normal, well then I'll just keep runnin her that way. Now I just need to get my cruise control fixed so I can get a lil more MPG out of her on the highway Thanks for everyone's chiming in, I appreciate it!
