Default A/C Problem?

My A/C takes a few minutes to get cold, but seems pretty cold to get there. Only used it a couple times but it seems to take about 10-15 minutes to get cold? This mean a recharge is in order?

Probably. Does it make a difference on Max AC?

If you here it cycle on and off fast, it might need a recharge. Pick up a recharge kit almost anyplace, and get one that comes with a guage so you can see the pressure in the system, there not very expensive at all.

It makes no difference on max or regular that I could tell. I'll put a recharge in it and see what difference it makes.

Finally got around to looking at this closer and the clutch is NOT kicking in. Fuse and wiring look fine. Have to see if just the clutch is replaceable. any ideas?

More likely the low pressure switch is stuck. Unplug it and jump the terminals, see if the compressor kicks on.

OK, I jumped the wires on the plug and the clutch still did not engage.

OK, I missed that there was a relay as well as the fuse - swapped out the relay for another one and poof, I have cold AC again. It was down a bit on coolant so filled that up as well Ready for summer...

Check to make sure power is getting right to the compressor clutch when you jump the pressure switch. If you are getting power at the clutch then the clutch could be defective.

Fixed it. It was a relay I had missed checking

Glad to have helped!

So there is a fuse, a low pressure switch AND a RELAY too.
