I have a bad wheel hub on my 2003 ford ranger. Its a 4.0L 4x4 XLT.

I got to the part where I pull the hub out and it won't come out at all.
I went to autozone and rented a puller.
The hub pulled apart not like it should have. Soo,,,, now I have a hammer and drift and I need to take the housing off that the hub sits in to get it out. I don't know if thats the best route but its the easiest/best I can think of right now.

I'm trying to find out how to get that big block off (The housing for the hub) There are 3 things bolted onto it. One that keeps the wheel from rocking on the top and on the bottom and another I think its from the steering wheel.

I've unbolted all 3 things and I'm having a hard time getting the top and bottom stabilizers off, I got the steering one off.

I've been at it since 8:00a.m. this morning and now its 2:22p.m. my knees are killing me and I can't wait to get this done!!

If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it.

To clarify, there is still half of the hub left in the housing and I need to get it out to install the new hub.

stupid question you took off the 32mm hub nut right?

And the 3 bolts that hold the hub to the spindle. After that you can give it a tap with a hammer and they just fall right off

Yeah I had the cv axle nut off, and the 3 hub bolts. It was really rusted on there. I think they were the factory hubs. I'm at 180k miles I bought the truck at 53k.

I got the first half of the hub off with a slide hammer and then I had to take the steering control off so I could turn it and hit the rest out with a hammer and drift. The new one went back in.

Now, I think I've damaged the bottom control arm bolt. (Forgive me if I'm not right on my terms I'm not too familiar with vehicles.) The bolt spins freely when I try to tighten the nut. Ontop thats is just a grease zerk and two big washer looking things, nothing to hold the bolt and tighten the nut. I might have cracked it in half?

Okay, I've been looking around and its a ball joint on the lower control arm that I've ruined. So I guess I'll be grabbing one of those today hopefully the shops carry them. Luckily the bottom ball joint can be hammered in with a swinging press Unlike what I'm hearing about the top set. They need a press for sure.
