It's apart of the cooling system, two hoses from the fire wall, then this unit and two hoses out to the engine. The unit it leaking coolant.

I'm pretty sure that it goes to your heater core inlet

It's called the heater control valve. Around $15 on rockauto. When you replace it, put a bucket under the area because you'll spill coolant in process.

Also make sure you get the 4 port valve one.

And yes, it does supply and return to the heater core.
