Ignition Switch Replacement

Leave it to me to make a simple procedure a monumental task.

It started when the ignition key just turned in circles around and around.
I bought a new ignition switch.

To replace, need to put ignition in the start position (after disconnecting battery). My switch would no longer do that. I tried positioning it and pushing the release pin but now the key doesn't go in. I pulled with pliers and just pulled off them outer part.

Now I tried to drill the pin out but that does not release the switch. Any ideas how to get the old switch out so I can replace it.
