Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
could see if your truck is prewired for cruise and install an OEM setup

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
Check if your truck is prewired, its not hard to install factory.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
Where could a person find an oem kit? Are they even available new or would you have to search junkyards?

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
Easiest way is look under the hood on the passenger fender behind the washer tank. There should be a plug there not connected to anything with like 10 wires going into it.
No one sells an OEM kit that I am aware of. Junkyard.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
Sounds right. Yes, the servo plugs in there. You need engine specific servo with cable. Then you need cruise pods with wiring.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
I don't know why it doesn't work. Go to ranger-forums and in the how-to section there is a how-to on installing cruise if your prewired.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
cool im going to check it out, but i know i see a servo and swithces but what about a computer and what not and in the how to he says:
3- Optional: complete ranger dash with wiring harness; complete engine harness (again these are optional and this mod can still be done, but may require extensive wiring and relays)…. Personally, I have taken my basic ranger and added all oem upgrades without having to go aftermarket; which I don’t prefer. Hey, but to each his own ☺
if i have the wiring for a servo wont the wiring be under the dash????

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
There are two how-to's on it. One is for '98-'03 prewired and the other is for non-prewired guys which looks way harder than the way I did it.
You don't need a computer. Its all built into the servo. I think you will need the clock spring that has wiring for cruise buttons. If I remember, I can take a picture at the junkyard of what that is. I've never done it on a prewired truck but did it on my non-prewired one.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
The wiring I believe is all there except you have to put the clock spring in out of a Ranger that was equipped with cruise because you will be adding wiring for the pods. I think the only wiring you are missing for the cruise pods that goes in the column.
I looked at Amazon and a new clock spring is $78. If it was me, I would go to the junkyard and get a new column with tilt wheel and it will already have everything wired in it if it has cruise on it. Then its just unplug and unbolt your old column and put the new one in. That way you get tilt wheel.
So you need:
Clock Spring that has cruise and the wiring for it inside the column
Servo and cable (vehicle specific)
Pods
Pod trim for the steering wheel.

Re: aftermarket cruise control kit
ok well im finally getting this! how easy is it to change the steering wheel and stuff? after that i just need to install the servo and cable and were good correct? and u said the servo and cable is engine specific as i imagine.
and is it a smart idea to just pull this stuff off to see if the wires are there for cruise because i dont want to get it all apart and not have the wires.im just having a issue seeing where the wires would be
if all is correct i need a servo and cable, and a steering wheel from a ranger with crusie control correct?
