Default Vibration

Hi, I have a 2011 Ranger Sport that has a vibration I canít pin-point. It only happens so far that Iíve noticed when driving around 65 on the highway. Feels like a harmonic vibration that comes and goes. Itíll vibrate for a Ĺ mile or so then go away for a mile or 2, and come back for another short time frame. Initially I thought it was a tire out of balance so I took it back to the dealer and they rebalanced all four wheels, drove itÖ still did it. Rotated the wheels, still did it. They swapped wheels with another Ranger Sport and it still did it. They said Ford does not have any notices out on the problem but will keep an eye out for one and keep me informed. Anybody have a thought as to what it could be. I donít drive on the highway this time of year often, but donít want to ruin anything if I do. Thanks for the help - Don

I know some engines have harmonic balancers on the lower pulley..not sure about the Ranger engine but on some Ford 4.0's, in Mustangs, there was a recall on this balancer.

Probably the only way to check that is to remove the drive shaft isn't it... Don

Being a new Ford owner, I'm not up on Ford motors and what interchanges with what... are the harmonic balancers common to both?
Thanks, Don

well aside from a few changes the 4.0 in the 05-10 mustangs is the exact same thing as the ranger...and the 4.0 rangers do have a harmonic balancer

Is there a sure way to tell if it's the same so I can go in and ask them to change it out or...? Thanks for all the info - Don

Plus, it's under warranty and the vehicle isn't operating properly. Demand that they find the problem and fix it. It's a brand new vehicle, it shouldn't be having any issues already.
