Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
2000 Ford Ranger XL 2.5L 5-speed
It seems as if I have a leak which is spraying (something) onto the drivers side of my hood, leaking from the lines leading to/from the component pictured below...
Would you guys mind identifying it? One of the hoses leads between the intake manifold, then I can't trace it from there in the dark. Seems to lead near the throttle body.
Haven't identified the component or fluid yet.
Thanks.

Oh it's the black part with the cap-looking thing on top, connected to that mount/bracket that I'm speaking of by the way :P

THats the purge solenoid, there shouldn't be any fluid coming out of that

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
Well the two lines coming from it (specifically the top line from what I can tell) is covered in wet dirty fluid of some kind (kinda like dirty caked oil).
Where do the lines lead?
----------
One to the throttle body, yeah?
Maybe when the EGR is open it is pulling EGR fumes through the broken purge line and pushing exhaust onto my hood from the broken line?
----------
See the spot on my hood? It's from the top vac line on the purge solenoid...

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
Is our power steering cap vented? if so, that's where the leak is really coming from, and I don't know how that's possible. spraying up onto my hood?

Check your Brake fluid level and your power steering fluid.
The less fluid in your power steering, the more whine it will make when your turning.
How do you brakes feel? spongy? does the pedal keep going to the floor while your stopped?

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
Brake lines are solid, brake fluid remains full.
Power steering appears to be the same or similar level as it was a few days ago, but I can't be completely sure.
All i know is that the PS cap (on the outside) has recesses that were full of PS fluid (looks like ATF doesn't it?).
From what I can tell, the PS cap is vented through a small hole, correct?

Correct, in case you overfill it. It expands when its warm and your turning the wheel etc, and compresses when its cold, on the inside of the cap there is two lines, a "cold fill" and a "warm fill"
Power steering fluid (new stuff at least) is clear and really oily. If its dirty it'll turn a brownish color, but still be really oily.
Stupid question, but have you started your truck up with the hood open, then visually looked at everything?

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
Yeah, nothing visually sprays
Checked it today, cleaned up the hoses leading to the Evap system, realized there was (dirty reddish) PS fluid on the top of my cap, filling the recesses, cleaned that out.
Any way to bleed the PS system at all? or flush it?

yep...pop the return hose off the pump, start the truck and as the fluid is pumping out have a helper keep adding new fluid...keep doing that until the fluid coming out is clean

As stupid as this may sound try taping a piece of cardboard where it's hitting your hood and take it for a short drive so that you have a better idea of where it's coming from. The darker spots on the cardboard will tell you.

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
If I remember correctly, there is a vent in the PS cap.

Re: Identify part/lines leading to/from part...
Leaky PS fluid/spray + hot engine = risk of fire
