I have done a few this way
remove upper radiator hose
shove garden hose into radiator where hose would be
angle loose radiator hose down
turn hose on
start car and let the t-stat open a few times until u see nothing but clear water coming out.
Turn hose off, reinstall radiator hose
drain radiator.
Refill radiator with coolant
dont know if this works on rangers but works good on audi.
Good luck

you can go get a flush kit from an auto parts store and cut one of the heater hoses and place the adapter in the cut that you made and it will let you screw the water hose into it and then drain the radiator and turn water on until it come out clear for about 10-15 mins..... shut water off let radiator frain and then close petcok and fill with antifreeze.... unhook hose and make sure lid for adapter is on tight and your good to go.....

it flushes past behind the t-stat because it's on the other side of it and uses vaccum to pull the coolant from infront of the t-stat..... and the petcok is the drain on the radiator..... and as far as repairing the heater hose you clamp the hose adapter into the heater hose..... i'll see if i have a pic of the one that is installed in mine.....

This is what I did. The kit explains how to do the install and flush in fairly easy to understand language. My coolant was coming out red, so I also got some cleaner and did it all at one time

I don't mean to revive an old thread but how do you clear the entire system of tap water? If I just drain the radiator won't the engine, heater core, etc still have tap water? I was going to use a 50/50 mix of distilled water/coolant.

You would need to drain your engine as well. There is a different procedure for flushing the engine.

----------

That us why to do a "correct" flush you would need take it to a shop where they can use a flushing system which will flush the radiator and block completely.

out of curiosity, i drained radiator through the petcokc (bottom drivers side) to watch the crap flow out. then i removed lover radiator hose on lower passenger side of radiator to see what crap came out of there.
- replaced thermostat while i was at it.
-proceeded to refill radiator with tap water. ran engine until thermostat opened up. filled radiator as the tap water circulated, and then drained; watched the other crap come out.
- did the a few times and then it was all clean water coming out - don't know if the heater core was flushed in the process.
- drained it again and added 50% distilled water / 50% concentrated coolant.

run like a boss.

Running distilled water is a waste of money and effort. It i no longer mineral free the moment you open the cap and pour it in.
