Talking Replaced Blend Door Actuator Today

Well after I replaced my fuel pump earlier, I tackled another problem; my blend door.

It hadn't worked since I bought the truck, but I never cared enough to find out what was wrong until today.

Took the actuator off, took it apart, and saw that there was a chip inside that was burned up. *I can take a pic of it if requested*

Called O'reilly's, bought a new one for $40 and installed it just moments ago!

I'm on a fixing roll today.

I've gotta do mine now... Mine just went out recently... all I get is hot air on all settings other than Max AC... pain in the butt.

Inside the old actuator.

Burned up chip in actuator.

The actuator is located behind the glove box.

Newly installed actuator. (Black thing with wire coming out) The old one was a pain to get out. There is a screw in the back part of it that is an 8MM.

Sorry pics aren't edited at all. I was in a hurry to post them.

my truck had the same problem when i bought it. guy selling it had been quoted that fixing the heat (mine was stuck on cold air) would cost around a grand, so he knocked that off the selling price. got an accuator from the j/y, fixed it for 20 bucks.

Wow, I wish I had caught mine being broken and got $1k knocked off! Nice fix for $20. I will keep my old one though, I have heard that the gears break sometimes.

yeah the gear was what was broken on mine. i lucked out, good thing the guy who owned my truck before me went to a crappy mechanic who didn't know much about the heating system haha they thought it was the actual blend door, not the accuator

Too late now, but a tip for the actuator removal and installation:

Forget the back screw! Use a sawzall or other cutting blade to chop the rear post off from underneath for removal, and don't put a screw in the back for the new one. It's just not necessary at all.

I was able to get to the back screw with a small ratchet. I did not reinstall it though. For one, I don't think it really needs it and two, if it breaks again I don't have to screw with it. (pun intended)

Thanks to everyone for their help. I bought an actuator one on line for about 30 dollars and was able to replace the old one. I'm sure that all of you, like me, have cuts about an inch below the knuckle of your index fingers that you acquired getting that back screw out. While getting that back screw out, I lost an 8 mm socket. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get it out or is it now part of my truck? I tried attaching a magnet to a wire, that I passed down the opening, but didn't catch anything. I also took off the blower from under the hood, but that didn't do anything either.

I would think it would fall to the floor, but if not then the truck owns it now, lol. As long as it didn't rattle I wouldn't consider it a big deal.

I might be stupid, but what exactly does that do? Just unlocks the doors? Or what?

opens the blend door... i.e. the thing that changes the temperature of the HVAC from cold hot... or vise versa.

what a pain in the arse this was to replace.

I ended up getting the front two screws off, then jamming a large wrench under the actuator and snapping it out, instead of getting the back screw off.

Also, putting it back in was a real treat... What I did was get one of the two front screws started, and then messed with the temperature knob until the actuator would snap into place. then i tightened down the screws and my HVAC works like it should again. Took me a total of about an hour.
