That sounds like a broken belt, or bad tie rod

OK. My truck was repaired, drives like a dream. The culprit was a siezed slip joint. they weren't able to repair it which is why it necessitated a whole new shaft. The cost as I understood it was 650. I don't know if that included labor. This was all fixed under warranty. No shaking/vibration at 40mph or above 65mph anymore.

Huh, good to know, first I've heard of one being siezed. My Taco had a zerk fitting for that.

one suggestion....

Never play around when it comes to safe driving(wheel shakes,etc.).

have a professional at least diagnose it(usually 75 bucks) then if you want you can do the repair.

My truck had a severe shake, so i brought it to Ford who said it was tie rod ends, so i replaced them and had a front end alignment, skake was still there, next i heard a small squeal, it was the passenger bearing assembly.

After i changed that out it Drives smooth again.

I have since brought it in to Ford for a winter special(look over vehicle top to bottom) and found that the u-joints are starting to go.
If i brought it in right away i may have saved some cash, plus the longer you keep driving without fixing the initial problem you end up breaking other things!

Sorry long winded, Just my 2 cents

It was very odd. I suspect it was a manufacturing defect, since everything was still in perfect shape. The dealer said as much without saying anything at all.

That is great news. How did they diagnose that?

The dealer I go to is pretty knowledgeable. WE tried to solve it with force variation balance of the tires, but the problem got worse after. SO they suspected drive shaft issue. They seem to have specialized techs in various areas, and they knew pretty quickly what the problem was after dropping it.

I just experienced the same problem today. When I hit speeds of 60mph my truck would shake and vibrate. My truck just had some bad u-joints on the rear drive shaft so i had them replaced and problem was solved.

Whew haven't thought about this issue in a while. I think what ended up solving the problem for me was some new drums in the rear.

I traded my lil ranger in for an f150, still think about rowing my own gears every time I get into it. haha
