Have a 98 2WD Standard cab and the door locks have been giving me trouble.Only with the key.Have to turn the key back and forth many times before it will unlock, on both doors.Have two keys ,one with me always ,the other rarely used, hangs in the house mostly.They both work the same way.Never had a door lock wearout,on any vehicle I've ever owned.

Anyone ever have this problem?

Mine was doing that for a while about a month ago but has stopped since. I was gonna take the door panel off to check it out but im not haveing trouble anymore.

thanks for the reply.I have found a way to make the key work ( better) on the drivers side.Before I lock and shut the door,I push the lock down then unlock it with the inside handle,then lock it again and shut the door.The key works fine when I go to unlock it again!?

Got to be the lock.

Yeah I think rangers are notorious for it. My 94' did it, guess what my 06' is doing it right now, the only thing I know to do is to put graphite in the cylinder

dont do it graphite will gum up and make the pins or wafers not want to move then your screwed. get some try flow and spray it in the key way to clean it. run the key in and out about ten time and do again then hit the key with a towel and clean up your doors over spill. and never use it (graphite) on a electric key i e ignition it can conduct electricity and your car can stay running when you turn the key off or worse the starter could start when the the motor is already running osh or ace should stock try flow maybe lows but not to shure.

I had the same problem I just squirted a tiny bit of WD40 in there and it's worked like a charm for over a month now.
Very smooth, have you tried that yet?

the only thing about wd40 if you drive where there is a lot of dust it will draw it in like a moth to flame. in winter its good because the water displacement summer not so much

^even though there is the cover that's always over it that just moves when you put your key in? Idk it seems to me that WD40 didn't really do anything except flush all the crap out.

ya that door is for big stuff and if you flush out the cylinder then try flow it you will be good. remember every time you put your key in your forcing stuff in their be it pocket lent or dust stuck to the out side of that door/flap!

I started having the same problem, which still persists, and have just recently tried this forum approach to try and solve the issue.

Thanks for this post I will try this remedy and see how it turns out. It's very annoying to have this happen often at the most inopportune times.

I was having a lot of trouble with my door locks and ignition when I bought my '05. The keys were severely worn considering it only had 88K on it.

I wound up going to the dealer and having a new key cut. I took that key and went to a lock shop and several copies made of the dealer key. After a couple of weeks of using the new keys, I don't have any more troubles.
