how much does one cubic yard of crushed granite weigh?+ more

our bed can hold approximately one cubic yard (6 feet x 4 feet x 16 inches)

supposing i actually fill it up, will my tailgate hold up with the weight? usually when i haul something theres not much against the tailgate but this time there could be since its granite and will spread out after driving

so how much does it weigh? i cant seem to find it

----------

im thinking one cubic yard in the bed or maybe half a cubic yard in the bed and one cubic yard, i doubt we can fit it but anyways one cubic yard in the trailer ill be towing

saw somewhere...3000 pounds?

I know a yard of gravel (1/4"-1" pebbles) weighs about 2800 pounds, I wouldnt even think about putting that much weight in the back of a my 1/2 ton, let alone a ranger. The tailgate is the last thing I would be worried about. lol I would take a few trips if I were you.

i hope thats a cubic yard...

so how about half in the bed and half in the trailer? thats 1400 each..not bad considering the payload of the ranger is err..looking for it now

the max trailer weight is 2480 lbs

----------

gcwr = 6000 pounds for my truck

----------

gvwr=4940

----------

i cant find the payload info...

Rangers typically have about 1200 pounds of payload capacity, but even if you did half in the truck and half in a trailer, as soon as you hooked that trailer to your truck the tongue weight combined with the rock in the bed would put you way over your payload capacity. Your payload includes anything in the bed, a tank of gas, passengers as well as trailer tongue weight.

----------

To find the exact payload for your truck you need to know how much the truck weighs including the weight of whatever you carry in the truck all the time (passengers, a full tank of gas, gear ect) and you subtract that weight from the GVWR thats listed on your door tag and you will have your payload capacity.

Re: how much does one cubic yard of crushed granite weigh?+ more

okay base curb weight = 3028 pounds
payload is 1260
gcwr= 6000
6000-3028=

2972... so....1200 in the bed and 1800 in the trailer sound okay?

----------

according to this
http://www.fordf150.net/specs/04ranger.php

my trailer capacity is 3980

----------

i mean 3820

No, because unless you load the trailer so that it has zero tongue weight (which is a very bad idea) you will still be way over your payload as soon as you hook that trailer up to the truck that is already at its max with a full load in the bed. The trucks payload (approx 1200 pounds) includes trailer tongue weight.

how can the max towing be more than the payload thats what im saying.... (if what you are saying is true.)

----------

the tongue weight will not be 1200 with the trailer becuse the trailer has wheels lol its not on the tongue it will be distributed

----------

*evenly distributed

because towing weight and payload are two different things. Im not saying that the tongue weight will be 1200 pounds, but if you put 1200 pounds of stuff in the bed and then hook a trailer to the truck that weighs 1800 pounds, with the trailer loaded properly more than half of the trailer weight will be above or forward of the axles so a large percentage of the trailer wieght will be hanging off of the hitch therefore adding to the payload of the truck. Since the truck is already sitting at max payload with a bed full of stuff, the tongue weight from the trailer will put you over the payload rating. You can be within weight as far as towing but can still easily be over the payload rating.

Re: how much does one cubic yard of crushed granite weigh?+ more

okay so wouldnt the tongue weight of a 1500 pound trailer be approx 300 pounds or probably less? so then that would mean i could do around 800 to 1000 lbs in the bed and then 1800 in the trailer ( and that is still less than the max edge towing weight i posted earlier) cux i am certain that the edge is the same as the xlt towing, def not 1000 lbs more thana the xlt

I think if you configured it that way you would be fine. Im not sure what youre exact truck capacities are because engine size, curb weight,wheelbase, transmission, gear ratio ect all factor into towing weight. My trucks max towing cap is 5600 pounds, but I still only have 1200 pounds payload.

can we keep this going? im gonna list my manuals info

payload=1200
max trailer weight=2360
so the f150 site as much as would love it...is wrong :(

gcwr= 6000

curb = 3028

leaves me with 3000k left no more than that lol

1000 in bed
1800 in trailer?

orrrrr if it comes up....nothing in bed just me and my toolbox...say..300lbs
then the trailer weight could be approx 2360 (manual weight)

Yeah, if the trailer has the capacity I would load as much as you can on that.
