you can also pull the wiring harness out of the brake control box to disable it too i did this to mine and gave it more power too and no abs and no traction control. 2011 Ranger

Its not fords fault, its Gov mandated to be on every vehicle built after a certain year.

are the wheel sensors the same as the ones used for ABS? i pulled the sensors out of my spindle like a year ago and haven't had any negative problems except for the ABS light on my dash.

In 2010 The Feds required it to be built in . The only way ( about 30 google searches ) known are to either pull the fuse , you're on your own , or to Use the sliding car button and press and hold for approx 10 seconds or just a quick push for on the spot . It seems that ABS and Traction stability is a part of the whole package tied together via the computer monitoring both items for control . The system is made for car owners to use on the street and not hard core offroad and if the sensors ( roll and Yaw ) detect a tip over , it will attempt to stabilize the vehicle by slowing it down . I had mine in the sand a few times and as long as I was moving and not spinning the wheels it was ok . When I spun the wheels the lites on the dash went nuts . I had no issues in 4 low but never hard core offroading . Also I notice it on ice and sometimes snow . So Stabilty and ABS somehow work together .... I cannot find any other way to shut them off .... I am assuming that when the ABS are off the stability control is off too . However , the computer would be looking for inputs to the speed and rotation of the wheels so I don't know what would happen .

Something else I just found but it is untested !!!!!!

From a Ford mechanic on another forum :

Another option is (and you didn't hear this from me) to unplug the active booster. When we need to run a car on the lift at work but the advancetrac just won't shut off that's that we do.

Couldn't you do a little electrical work and tie all of the sensor wiring into a single sensor to override the system?

The only problem I've ever had on mine is that on ice, the ABS pulses too fast, and the tires slide like they were locked.

My computer crap switches off when I want it to, so I've never really been concerned with it. I don't drive like I have something to prove, so it really doesn't get in my way.

When I off road, and if the situation allows, I put it in 4low, and put the gear shift in 2 so i have a gear similar to 1st. That way all i have to do to get low is to pop the shifter down into one, and it also deactivates all the traction stuff automatically.

Define dirt. I mostly go on rocky trails, and the only dirt I drive on is dirt roads. I'm not big into playing in mud, but I hit a fairly substantial hole once and got though it no problem.

It usually helps if you read your manual

So true . I was up in New Hampshire on some back roads in North Conway and did not even need 4 low but I was in 4 high and mostly dirt / lite mud as the roads were wet due to rains .... More tourist roads than real mud . I used the manual as well as spoke to others including Ford . My truck handled very well . Just need to watch out for low branches etc lol ... Got a couple of scratches on the upper passenger side of the bed on the Clear coat and had them fixed ...
