Default Interesting vehicle fact regarding it's past life

If you bought your Ranger used and would like to know if it was treated well or not, you can see if it lived it's life "half full, or half empty" when you inevitably remove the fuel sending unit to replace it.

The wear pattern would be even across the slider in most cases if the truck was filled up often. In this case it clearly biases the low end of the tank most of it's life meaning the guy who owned this truck just threw a $20 in it and ran it low on fuel most of it's life which inevitably killed the fuel sender prematurely. Don't wanna replace parts? Fill up your tank!

Sometimes a $20 is all people can afford.

I always fill all the way up at the end of the week. I generally get down to half a tank if I dont have extra stuff to do.

i hardly ever fill my truck up. with the way prices jump up and down, i hate seeing it 10 cents cheaper the following week. with that said, i run mine til the light comes on, a lot. 200k+ miles and never touched the tank nor the pump.

On a random note related to this thread in a way, I just ran an autocheck on my truck and the truck has done 10k a year consistently for 14 years. At that mileage $20 would have lasted about 2 weeks or so. Especially before 2008. LOL.......

It's done 140k in 14 years and the mileage statement on each time it was registered showed exactly 10,ooo miles a year. Dang thing has ever barely been used. It crawled to this mileage very slowly....

Given that wear pattern, even if the lower half was worn off, the upper half would still work. So I'm not sure how this is causing a complete failure of the sender. And for the people that "refuse to allow it below 1/2 a tank" for odd reason, the same thing would happen to the top half.

When you half half a tank you don't need to know how much gas you have. When your ass has $3 in the tank you NEED to know how much gas you have. LOL.......

(though the actual point was you'd only have HALF the wear on the sender overall and it would still work properly if you filled up every time you got low, not if you only kept it half full.)
