Default Mysterious Leak

First here are some pics.

Front Passenger Side

Front Driver Side

As you can tell, in the first pic the boot, the spring, and everything else is soaked in fluid while the other is not.

Is the boot leaking brake fluid? I went through the engine bay and nothing is leaking from the top. I wonder if anyone else had a leak in this area before. All help appreciated.

2001 2.5L 4 cyl.

Let me know if I could include more info, I am going to be installing a new fuel filter tomorrow so I will be able to look into specific areas if you think there is an area I should check-recheck. Thanks for all the help.

David

stick your finger in it and smell it, look at it, feel it. Maybe taste it. This will tell you what type of fluid it is

Looks like a tie rod boot leaking and probably the wind (from driving) making it sling on the spring. I think that boot can just be replaced but you will most likely have to take the tie rod off to replace it

Clinton, our mechanic at our shop said it could be just that. Thanks. So, this seems like the time to get my hands on a manual.

So again, here is where we think the leak is coming from

Default Edit: Rack and Pinion Leak

So I just got back from the tire shop down the road, and the owner and I got to talkin about that rack and pinion. He said that it is time to replace it, so its not so mysterious anymore. Thanks everyone for your help.

Is rack and pinion suspension tech or ? And when you replace this, you replace the whole rack right?

Im gonna be changin this over to the appropriate tech forum later.

Thanks all.

i think general tech is fine for this, it's not exactly a suspension part.

but yes, the whole rack gets replaced unfortunately. you can get a remanufactured one for less than a new one, but every reman'd rack i've heard has a loud whine to it.
