Default gas leak while filling up

96 (ranger)/(mazda B300 4x4)

I just filled the tank. I never top up and I've never had a problem before. But today, I started to notice gas leaking out around the tank while pumping gas. I immediately stopped the pump. Probably 3/4 cup of gas leaked out, and then stopped, down the side of the poly tank. There didn't seem to be any gas around the fill pipe. The tank was really filled to the top based on the gauge.

I'm just wondering, if the pump did not shut off when it should have, and there was too much pressure, is there some sort of valve that will open that might cause this release of gas? There have not been any leaks since the incident.

Any ideas appreciated!

thx,
rob

It's most likely the filler neck. Our trucks are notorious for having to have the filler from the side of the bed to the top of the gas tank dry rot/crack. It's an easy fix, the filler necks are on ebay for less than $50. I did mine a few times already, just loosen the bed bolts and tilt the bed back to get to the top of the gas tank. Doesn't take more than an hour depending on how bad your bed bolts are rusted in.

Hello All,
I have a 2000 6cyl 2wd Ranger and cannot seem to find the rubber part I need when I search for it on ebay / etc. - the only thing I can find is the metal filler neck tube, - I've been searching for awhile, and can't figure this out !

I don't think I need the actual metal filler neck, because the fuel leaks out of somewhere located on top of the tank ( haven't taken off the bed yet )- but I can see 2 metal tubes coming from the filler neck ( bolted to the side of the bed ) - attached to these are rubber hoses that when touched leave a completely black sooty mark all over your hands - they are obviously deteriorating -

Please let me know if I am way off base, but I am thinking this:

the original filler neck and single hose ( inner fill and outer vent ) was replaced by 2000 to a dual hose sytem ( what I see when I look up under the bed )
this alleviated the lining up problem people seemed to be having like in this thread:
http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...ck-231050.html

Therefore I cannot find the rubber tubing part, because it is just plain tubing ?
I am hoping someone will say: 'yes ! correct ! just buy it at your local ?**put name of store here**? and take off and replace.

Ok maybe wishful thinking, if so can anyone point me in the right direction for this part ?

thanks

Does this sound right ?
