Going to look at 2 Ranger 04's tomorrow

One is an extended cab with 75k miles, askin $7.9k, the other is a standard cab with 68k mils for $5.9k. They are both 2 wheel drive 3.0 liter auto's. Anything in particular I should be looking for?

Pull then tranny dip sticks and smell the fluid. Make sure it aint burnt.

I honestly would look for a 4.0 instead of the 3.0 engine. I can get 18-20 mpg with my 4.0 2wd
My old 03 3.0 I could only get about 17 highway mpg plus it had no power to get out of it's own way.

Same here, I would try to find a 4L Sohc (2001 + ) if you can find one in your budget

If youre going to buy a 4L, some earlier 4L sohc (2001-2003 IIRC) had timing chain tensioner problems which can be a pain to change so it might be something to look for.
