I used my engine hoist & lifted the bed off my truck to replace the filler neck & hoses & fixed my fuel gauge at the same time which I had to remove the fuel pump assembly to do. I think that way is a lot easier & I didn't get any rust & dirt in my eyes doing it. If you could wait do it when you get back for the price of the pump & 1/2 days labor on your part.

Re: $1000 for Ford to change my fuel pump. Seriously?
$1000 is BS, not to mention the fact that the dealership is going to get you an aftermarket fuel pump since Motorcraft discontinued the OEM Ranger fuel pumps. And that aftermarket pump has a decent chance of failing within a year.
So on top of the $250 pump that might be unreliable, they're charging you about 7.5 hours of labor at the ridiculous $100/hour labor rate, but if you remove the bed and do it yourself w/ the help of a buddy or two, it will take roughly 3-4 hours.
By the way, Ranger owners will get screwed because of Motorcraft discontinuing the OEM fuel pump. There doesn't seem to be an aftermarket fuel pump maker on the planet that can make a fuel pump that isn't a piece of shit. Some of those pumps are defective right out of the box. Others are wildly inconsistent and they work one day, don't work the next day, and work again the day after that. That's a good enough reason for me to ditch this fucking Ranger and get a different truck, a truck that the automaker actually gives a shit about.
