Default 2000 Ranger AC Noise

First of all Id like to introduce myself. My name is Donald and I recently inherited a 2000 Ranger from my grandfather. It has around 92000 miles and runs great. I came across this forum and Im sure it will be a huge help to me!

There is a noise that seems to be coming from behind the passenger side AC vents. If I turn the AC switch to OFF the noise goes away. The sound is louder if I select 'Max' AC vs when i select normal AC. The air is still ice cold and it doesnt seem to be losing any ability to cool the truck, its just an annoying sound. I made an audio recording of the noise but the size of the file is too large to upload to this forum. Ill try and compress it down or make a shorter recording.

Anyone have any ideas?

Nobody is going to have ideas if you don't describe the sounds. "Annoying" isn't very descriptive.

Its a tough sound to try and describe in words. Ill just remake the recording tonight and attach the sound bite.

Here is an audio file of the noise that is coming from the drivers side. Any ideas of what the noise might be would be greatly appreciated. Sorry about the low volume on the recording. My phone mic isnt the best.

when you put it in max ac you are closing the out side air off and recirculating the inside air. more than likely a piece of door has broken off and gotten into the fan. if so, that dash has got to come out. unless you have a large amount of time on your hands and can remember where every little screw and bolt goes back, your gonna have to take it to the shop. it AIN'T gonna be cheap. i'd put up with the sound!

----------

Also, if you have access to an air blower, you may try and VERY LIGHTLY blow the piece out or away from the fan. blow through the ac vents. try with the blowers on and off.
*****CAUTION******* dO this at yur own risk and judgement!!!!!! i;m not gonna cover the bill if anything tears up! hahaha.

It could also be something else thats gotten sucked through the interior or interior intake. If its making the noise (leaves, twigs, baby chimpmunks, etc). The reason it is louder on MAX AC is because the intake is open to the cab as well. On all other postions, the intake is open to the outside.

I was having the same issue im my 06 a few weeks ago. It ended getting cold again and I didnt need the ac for a few weeks and then when I started using it again this week its gone.

So id say just like they mentioned, maybe something dropped down, or some little piece of something, id just run it on max for awhile or drive the truck maybe on some bumpy roads or offroad and it might jar it loose. All I know is mine is gone now after I did all that lol, not planning to acourse.
