Unhappy 2004 Ford Ranger 4000 XLE A/T (Speed Control)

Hi guy's and girls. I recently purchased me a Ford Ranger in Roodepoort and drove it all the way down to Somerset West. Everything seems to be in order except for a "Auto Speed Control function". Is there anyone that know if there is a way to fit a universal speed control module or something, and where can I start to look?

Thanks in advance.

You can try www.car-part.com and search salvage yards all around your state. There may be one there that is in working order.

It sounds like this truck has factory speed control but it is not working. If that is the case, then the following self-diagnostic procedure should help locate the problem:

Quote:
Do not start engine during this test. Transmission in Park or Neutral with parking brake applied.

Put the key in the ignition and hold the OFF button on the speed control then turn the key to the on position and then release the OFF button. This puts the speed control in diagnostic mode.

Within 5 seconds of releasing the OFF button, start pressing the buttons in the sequence shown below:
  • ON
  • RESUME
  • COAST
  • SET/ACCEL
(For each button pressed, the speed control light should flash ONCE, indicating that the pressed button is working.

If, after pressing the last button (SET/ACCEL), the speed control light flashes:
  • 2 flashes - defective brake pedal position sensor and/or a bad clutch pedal position sensor or the circuit is defective.
  • 3 flashes - Brake deactivation switch is open or circuit is defective.
  • 4 flashes - Vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective.
Immediately after the last flash code is complete, the speed control servo will attempt to pull the throttle open and then release it. This should be watched to check that the throttle and cable are not binding or inoperative for any reason.

Although it is rare, it is also possible that this code could flash early during the diagnostic procedure.
  • 5 flashes Speed Control Actuator defective.
Turn ignition switch to the off position after test.

Thanks guys. No, it does not have any cruise control parts, so I'm on the hunt of what I should get and what not, parts no. etc. I found this thread here <-- that helped me but I'm not sure if I will find those parts in South Africa. I will have a look at the dealers and see how far I can get.

Regards

Factory parts that fit a North American Ranger will not often work on the "world" Ranger built in Thailand and sold in South Africa. These trucks share little more than their common name.

Perhaps a regional Ford dealer can supply a complete kit for your Ranger as it can be done here. Or maybe you can piece your own "kit" together using parts from similar salvaged vehicles.

If no Ford factory parts are available, then you may be able to use a universal cruise control kit from an aftermarket supplier. This type of kit can usually be adapted to almost any vehicle but it may require some extra work making everything fit and function.

Thanks for the reply, like you said, no campaign. I went to a dealer and he told me if it is not fitted, there are no parts. His advice is to look at mod workshops. Is there anyone that knows where I can look for a descent universal cruise control kit? The long roads are killing me softly! lol

Thanks in Advance.
