Default steering column ignition switch

i have a 98 ranger with a broken ignition. the key lock works fine and the switch on the column works fine but the piece that slide through the column housing is broke how do i get that piece out of the column. iu am trying to get one out of another ranger to put into mine but i cant get it out . any ideas

1998 ford ranger 2.5L, 4 Cyl. This ranger has been stolen stripped, and dumped in a river under water for two days, it caught on fire damageing the interior passenger side. its been wrecked when a person pulled out in front of me. have had blow outs on all four tires and the timing belt broke while driving at 65 mph.. IT STILL RUNS!!!!! sounds like a ford commercial (or a country song if you add my dog and x-wife) if you ask me.

My idea would involve getting a manual and looking at the words and pictures.

no s**t!!! I never would have thought of that!!!! The book i have does not cover the actuator shaft. So if anyone can give me some info. i can use i would appriciate it very much

it's been a while since i have torn a column apart, but the black plastic trim had to come off, pretty sure the ignition switch needs to come out. the plastic knee panel and the metal one under it comes off. then there should be a good sized white plastic box, it has a wiring harness in it. that's where that rod goes. unbolt the wiring, then that box should unbolt. i think the rod is attached to that box, or when you unbolt it it will come out with it. if that doesn't work, post up some pics of that area and i'll look at them.
