In the process of trying to pass emissions soon.
My truck has been mostly sitting for the past few years with very little driving on it and now I'm trying to do anything to make it run better. I just replaced the original battery. Trans still has slight hesitation even after 3 quarts and so I will be getting the pan dropped/drained/filter change (I'm leery of getting it flushed based on what I read on the forums). I might also have them change the spark plugs. I'm wondering if I should add some fuel cleaner type product. The gas is pretty old but recently 4 gallons were added. This is all you can add before it starts leaking as there is apparently a gas tank leak at the point just over a quarter tank
(I'll have mechanic fix that later). Any product recommendations? What else could I do to optimize the performance. At 87,000k should I be switching to synthetic oil?
The engine sounds strong. High idle at first but starts to quiet down. I could only drive it up and down the block as there aren't plates on it so I didn't get a chance to really get a good test.
I can repair just about most things in a home but never got into the car stuff. I'm learning a lot here!
