I have a 5spd and when I throw it in nuetral it will stay at 2grand until I come to a complete stop then it will go down to bout a grand and idle where it should be. Why is it doing this? One person told me I may have a vaccum leak? But idk if that would cause the high idle before it drops. Any help?

I just went through this problem on my sons 1994 3.0 4X4, we cleaned the IAC valve, although real dirty with carbon and gunk, it did not fix. Cleaned the MAF and problem solved at this point. We are going to replace the IAC in near future because of how dirty it was.

With the 4.0L does the same, i think it may be a vacuum leak, but i havent looked into it too much. I may have to try cleaning the MAF like you did northsantaim. if that fixed yours
