Default newer year body on 91 ranger chasis?

have a '91 chasis with 48k miles 2wd 2.3 5spd long bed 114 wheel base. is there a newer model year body(junk yard or craigs list...good body with bad frame/engine) that would fit my chasis. would there be particular problems with such a project?

fun to watch the ranger activity/ discussions on FRF. spending lots of time looking at pics. hope to get some feedback on body/chasis swaps. i have a 91 ranger running chasis only and am considering finding a newer year body to mount on it... just starting into the idea and not sure if it's too much to get into. has anyone done this and has advise?

There was a guy in my old town that had a 93-94 body on a 92 frame. I dk how much modding he had to do to it though. It was a pull truck.

Moved to the General Tech section.

would have to match wheel base to start, but not sure about wiring harnesses.... airbags... the little things that might get in the way. wonder if it would register as a titled 91 chasis or would have to get a newer titled body... then does it require new emission standards???

Yeah like I said, im sure he had some welding and modding to do to make it fit.

I don't think so. They didn't change much between those years, mostly electronics. The cab/bed/fenders should all bolt right on. I think it was 95 when they started putting the air bags in them?

Now if you wanted newer then that then yes, I bet you would have some cutting/welding to do.

93-97 regular cab w/long bed has a 113.9 wheelbase...should be ok on a 91 approx 114 wheelbase. 95 started the driver airbag and 96 started the pass airbag. 98 adds 3.6" to std cab and wheel base. easiest would be to stick with a 97. ...just not sure if i would be required to have a functioning air bag and would they look for 97 emission standards. also don't know if it would title as a 91 or 97 at the registry....???

That's really something you should ask the registration department. It could be either one. I would assume they would register it as a 91 just because that is what the frame/drivetrain is, but who knows?

Same with emissions.

definately will check with registry before buying another body for the 91. but more importantly, need to talk with someone that has done a newer body on a 91 vintage. before i take on the project, need to find out whats involved.
