No, DRL's are Daytime Running Lights. Low beam headlights run at reduced power during the day for visibility. It is required in Canada and common in trucks sold in the far northern US.

It is no longer something you can disconnect like the older generations. Either a dealer has to plug in and reprogram them to be off. Or you can unhook and ground the wire on the parking brake pedal. The DRL's shut off when you put on the brake. But since you have a manual, that function might be more important to you.

It's actually an auto. I was hoping there was a relay or something that I could unplug, that's how ot was on my vw.

The older rangers were like that. Not anymore. So honestly the easiest thing to do is unplug and ground the wire on the e-brake pedal. Then take the bulb out of the dash indicator.

I have the opposit problem. I wish I could get DRL's. Not offered in New England, even as an option.

x2 here.
I read a very comprehensive NHTSA report a couple years ago and their conclusion was that having lights on was 37% more likely to prevent collisions than any other visual change.
This included motorcycles and European studies.
Always gotta take those US gov't reports with grain of salt but I believe it.

The manual actually calls these fog lights my 09 has the same switch I use mine as daytime lights but daytime running lights come on automatically when you start the vehicle.

Yea on mine the switch has 3 positions: off, running lights only, headlights, and you can pull it out for fog lights. I do know if that switch is off I have no lights...
