It is no longer something you can disconnect like the older generations. Either a dealer has to plug in and reprogram them to be off. Or you can unhook and ground the wire on the parking brake pedal. The DRL's shut off when you put on the brake. But since you have a manual, that function might be more important to you.
Where did you get that info? I tried asking a dealership and we looked in the technical manuals, they couldn't find if it was reduced or pulse.

I don't know if the old style DRL modules used pulse modulated or just reduced constant power. But the newer programmable ones are all pulse modulated power, including yours. The dealer can plug in and enable/disable it. If your dealer can't figure it out, then find a new dealer. However, it is required in Canada so they may not disable it for you.

It already has them. You just have the dealer program it and magically you will have them.

I found some (not confirmed) new information on the net and at the local Ford dealership concerning the 2011 Ranger (and certain other 2011 Ford models) and daytime running lights. The module was integrated into the smart junction box in Rangers from 2006 onwards, as indicated here in this thread. What is new (supposedly) is that the 2011 US version cannot be activated by a US dealer's IDS programmer. The 2010 and down to 2006 Rangers will still function with the US Dealer's version to turn DRL's on. The US dealers also cannot turn the DRL off on a Canadian model.

This is very strange, especially since only Ford, Chrysler and Nissan offer their US models without daytime running lights as standard equipment. It is even stranger still when Ford offers a DSL option for $45.00 when ordering a US truck from the factory, which they do. To top it off US Ford fleet models come standard with DRL activated. Somethings not rational about all of this, but apparently that is the way it comes down this year.

The Canadian Ford dealer's have complete enabling access but do not have the option of turning DRLs off, in accordance with Canadian regulations, but can change them to run on the front parking lights instead. In fact, Canadian versions of Chrysler products run them with parking lights, instead of lowbeams at 80% power, so it is perfectly legal.

When I brought all this up, the local dealership service manager took me to the back to talk to the senior resident electrical tech. He said that he had never done one before but knew about it and would be able to make the switch in a few minutes, but with the paper work and all would charge me for a half hour labour. He also said that any US truck that gets to a Canadian dealer can have the daytime running lights turned on without any hassle.

So, I made an appointment for late next week to make the changeover. Now at least my new Nighthawks will last a bit longer instead of wearing out during the day. I hope all goes according to plan and they can do it. If not, no cure, no pay, as far as I am concerned.

Twists and turns of life and DRL are hard to catch up with. My local Canadian Ford dealer could not program the lights whatsoever on my 2011. They contacted Ford who told them that the function to either switch them to parking lights or turn on or off is not available with (or removed from) the dealer software. Back to square one. Does anyone know what the US dealers now say about reprogramming DRL on the 2011 rangers?

I hate DRL's because the majority of the teens who have them on their vehicles, think it's "cool" to just have the DRL's on and then switch on the parking/ tail lights. so at night, you see headlights that are 1/4 the wattage coming at you, then, they drive by, and the entire road in front of the idiots car is dark because he thinks it's "cool" to drive blind at night
