A/C

For some reason, my compressor takes a minute or 2 to turn on when i put my air on A/C. and if put it right to Max A/C, it does not turn on, but i just put it on A/C, wait for it to turn on, then switch to Max, it works. Is this a compressor problem or the switch?

My Sonata would do something like that as well. Max and min there was no difference and and it took a long time for the Compressor to come on. A week later, the Compressor seized. I just hoped its not the same for you.

Dude it better not, i havent used in months so hopefully it will get better because use it all the time now!

They sell certain kits, i forget what its called since it was 2 years ago, but its like 2 spray cans that you inject in your AC system, it might save your system, it worked on my dad's 2003 frontier, but my Compressor was to far gone for it to work for me. I think I paid like $90 for it and you can buy it from Princess Auto (canada) I dunno if you guys have Princess Auto in FL.

What do the cans do? like renew the system and if so how? ill start with te cheapest thing first haha! And how much do compressors run for?

I am not sure how they work, I "think" what they so is that they seal any leaks and my might also restore your system. You just inject in I believe the + side of your AC and let it flow through your system and its supposed to do the magic for you. Again this was 2 years so I don't remember 100% the steps, but it come with instructions so just follow them and you will be fine.

So once it does finally turn on, does it continue to operate normally?

Yes, the compressor runs beautifully and the A/C is ice cold, just takes a min or two to turn on.

Perplexing. The AC controls on the dash are just an input to the computer. The computer monitors that input, the pressure, and the TPS. The computer then commands the compressor clutch on and off. There is no "normal" reason why it would delay turning on and then operate normally. I doubt a fix-in-a-can will have any effect since something is telling the computer not to run the AC.

If you take the trim off around the HVAC and stereo, then unscrew the HVAC panel, you will see all the wires. One of them is purple coming off the multi selector knob. Applying +12v to that purple wire will tell the computer you're demanding AC. If it works properly when you do that but not with the knob on the dash, you'll have isolated the problem to the knob on the dash.

If it still acts stupid, well I defer to Rwenzing, whom is the superior electrical systems brain on the forum, partly because I think he may have designed it....

I will try this and If this isnt it, is there an internal switch that regulates the cycling of the compressor itself?

There is a pressure switch on the AC system, thats it. I'm pretty sure that is connected to the computer, but it may be directly inline with the clutch control wire too, I forget. Either way, it couldn't be malfunctioning otherwise it wouldn't work right at all.

Now wait a second, you're saying "it doesn't work". Lets back up. When you say it doesn't work, do you mean its just not getting cold. Or are you saying the compressor clutch isn't even engaging. Cause I'm assuming the clutch isn't engaging.

When you turn it to AC, do you hear it click under the hood and the compressor starts going. Or does it do nothing and then after a few minutes, it engages?

Yes, when i put it to A/C, the click happens and the clutch engages after about a min of idle. Now if i go straight to max, the compressor clutch does not engage and only normal air blows, not cold.

So you turn it to AC and after ~1 minute, the clutch engages and it works normally?
