Default 2005 Ford Ranger 3.0L POWER UPGRADES NEEDED

Hi All,
I have a 2005 ford ranger edge 3.0L v6 2wd. It has 61k miles. I have put on a K&N CAI and i have flowmaster exhaust. I cant stand the weak power. I need something more. It has had all scheduled maintenance. The takeoff and response is horrible. I've tried putting 91 octane in.

Oh and by the way i should be getting i believe 16-22 mpg....but im barely getting 12mpg.

Please any ideas...im 18 and have low income...

its a 3.0.....its not built for speed, if you want power drop in a 5.0 or upgrade your truck to an f150

There is nothing worth a damn for it that would cost less than a 5.0 swap. The 3.0 will never be a rocket, and people need to stop trying to make it one, cause it ain't worth it.

not true, you can get big power out of the 3.0 if you wanna spend big money, cheaper to swap in a v8 though

If you would have read my post you would have seen this part: "There is nothing worth a damn for it that would cost less than a 5.0 swap"

you must drive like a ruh-tard to get 12 mpg. i hvae a volant intake, magnaflow catback, and 80k miles on my truck. i can get 17-19mpg with my 33" tires. no need to floor it to a red light. like said, there isn't much you can do to a 3.0 to make it fast, this motor is made as a work horse. you can try to find a supercharger used for it (no one makes a new one) but that'll run you easily $2000. or check out moranav6racing.com to check out his parts for the 3.0. either way though, spending money on a cam, roller rockers, stroker kit, or any "go fast" parts for this engine will leave you broke, and with a truck that's still slower than a 4.0 swap.

Hey Im 18 and enjoy life...im not that hard on the pedal and i should still not be getting 12 mpg....

On Another note...i took my truck to a friends mechanic and he said that my truck was running lean.....he thinks the cause is oil on the maf sensor from the knn....ive already cleaned the maf sensor 1nc and had no improvement. 1. Do you think its the maf sensor and 2. Do i need to replace the maf sensor if thats the issue and 3. Could the running lean effect my mpg and if so in what way. And 4. Do you have any other ideas for why ifs running lean.

Any help would be much appreciated

How the hell are you only getting 12mpg? *confused face*

When I had mine I got a solid 19 all the time and it was a 4x4... That's really weird. Something isn't running right in your truck if you're getting 12.

K&N filters are known for getting oil on the MAF. clean it really well with MAF cleaner and you should be good to go. you don't need to 100% replace it. running lean means that the engine is getting less gas than it needs. that would mean you should theoretically get a higher MPG than you are. enjoy life less on the skinny pedal. i'm willing to bet that the majority of your problems with bad mpg comes from your driving habits, i can see a big drop in MPG when i drive like a *******.

Driving highway with my 1998 3.0 2wd ranger i get between 19 and 23. I have only gotten 23 a couple times on the freeway.

While some of that may be true...Lets take our focus away from the mpg and more toward power. I really want some more low end power. My high end power takes off like a rocket...just have to be going 40mph to take off.

Is there ANYTHING Inexpensive I can do to get some low end power. My take off is horrible. Its either crawling to 30mph or hitting passing gear as I practically floor it(Which I don't think is right...).

Please let me know..All suggestions will be appreciated.
