Default Squeaky Brakes

My brakes have been squeaking pretty much since i got my truck. i recently changed both front and rear brakes to try to stop the squeaking even thought the brakes werent that bad. i put in the ceramic brakes and now the squeaking seems worse, and its driving me completely nuts to here this loud shrill no matter how hard or soft i push the pedal. Anyone else have this issue or no how to stop it?

I've had the same problem with my 2010 ranger. First time from the lot I hit the brakes its making noise. I go to the dealership to get it checked and I get a lecture on moisture and pebbles.... ugh and they found nothing except a rock in the brake shield ..... still making noise.

ARGH!

Could have been caused by the areas that the caliper contacts the back of the pads. Hence the suggestion of brake grease.

Ceramic pads will also sqeek at the rotor contact area. And unless you've got some new type of ceramic blend that does not require hardened rotors, they'll wear the hell out of standard rotors and squeel worse than your original setup as the hard material bites into your soft rotors.

Yeah its so "new" I only have 8k kms on it. Hmm grease, dealership never mentioned nothing about that or anything else besides moisture and dust... might be looking for another place for service if it takes 1 hour for 2 suggestions from here and 2 days with "We took a rock out of the brake shield".

Thanks guys, Ill check that out.

When they took the rock out of your brake shield, did they readjust your squeler indicator? Seems like just about every car Ive had, I had to bend that thing back because it got pushed forward somehow.

I also have a 2010 Ranger 4X4 sport with front and rear disc brakes. I had the same experience as you did. It was just new off the lot and the rear brakes started squeaking, especially when coming to a rolling stop. The first time I brought it in they said it was rust on the rotors??? I live in snowy Nova Scotia next to the ocean, of course we get rust, but none of my other vehicles brakes squeak due to rust. It's a bad attempt to explain something away and also to insult your intelligence.
After returning a second time, it turns out that it's not rust, after all but an issue with the brakes themselves. There is a TSB out on the brakes and an oasis search found SSM 21380. I have book an appointment to have them fixed and will let you know exactly what the issue was. Cheers.

I just had my brakes serviced today under a Technical Service Bulletin
(SSM 21380) and they replaced my rear pads. It appears that the batch of pads under this particular TSB was causing the constant squeaking noise in the rear brakes. I'm not sure how far this TSB extends, but my 2010 4X4 sport, 4.0 litre AUTO was covered. Hope this info helps other folks in this forum. Cheers.

Very interesting about the ceramic pads because I took my truck into Ford for a different recall last month and they "did the 51 point inspection" free of charge and said my front pads need replacing soon (and if I waited then probably my rotors since they were wearing. I was also told that my tires needed balancing. Total bill was est. at $250.

I went elsewhere last week (to a reputable chain) to have my pads replaced and my rotors looked at. Prognosis was that one of the rotors was warped, so I needed new front pads and rotors. I didn't have an option and was told that semi-ceramic is "the thing". I know that they test drove the vehicle afterwards.

For the most part, I am satisfied, but I also get a slight squeal that interestingly doesn't happen all the time. The first time I use the brakes (morning or night, rain or shine) they are fine, and then the subsequent times they softly squeal.

I politely went back to the shop today, and unfortunately, had to make an appt. for Monday morning. I was told that there is a break-in period of about 1,000 miles as the pads slightly wear.

Update:

Went back yesterday. I'm not sure if they adjusted anything, but after testdriving the vehicle twice it was confirmed that the right side was the culprit. More grease was added, and it seems to have made a difference. BTW, I inquired about what kind of rotors were used, and their response was, "NAPA premium". Hopefully, I can get 47,000 miles out of them.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I have an 08 Ext. Cab 3.L, V6 automatic with 47,000 miles. I am gentle on my brakes. Thank you.
That's interesting what they said about the break-in period. I just had my rear brake pads replaced and there has been no squeaking since. Also they didn't mention anything about a break-in period, they simply said that "the squeaking noise is fixed". If they are still squeaking after 1000 miles, I would be interested in what the shop says about it.

I'm close to maybe 600-700 miles since the pads and rotors were replaced. They were polite, and they said if I have a concern I can always come back. Overall, it seems my problem is fixed.
