Default Heater Core Problems, undertook a daunting task haha

I need some help. I've pretty much exhausted all other options (for help) and then I found this site. I've had my 01' Ranger for 11 years now and it has been ok for me. I took to a mechanic, because it was leaking coolant, and he said it was the heater core. Found out it was + or - 700 bucks to be fixed and decided to do it myself. It is pretty stripped now but doing it by myself takes forever. Need help on getting the instrument panel off. Anyone?

Get a manual or online manual like all data diy. With a little common sense and research here and on a few other forums you can simplify some of the steps.

My experience is based on the 2000, but it'll may help you.

First, you don't *have* to totally pull the stearing wheel. a few bolts/screws and it'll lay down on the drivers seat, leaving plenty of room to pull the dash as a whole.

The book also wants you to discharge the AC to be able to remove it from a bolt it shares with the heater core on the engine side of the firewall. With a little willpower you can finesse it and save a lot of time and headache.

While you're doing this (plan on 7 hours) just keep thinking about all of those guys with 94 or older rangers. on those it's less than 8 screws and about 20 minutes worth of work.

As my mechanic said, Ford designed the 2000 ranger around the heater core. Dang near everything has to come out to get to it.

I did a mine about 5 years ago, sadly, I have to do it again tomorrow. ugh. it really is a PITA.
