Talking changing manual trans rear seal

I have a 2003 ranger 2.3 4cyl, 5-speed manual trans. it is slowly dripping atf from the rear trans seal where the drive shaft enters the trans.

if i drop the drive shaft from the rear axle, and slide the drive shaft out (it's a 1 piece shaft) will it just slide out? or do i need to be concerned about something in the trans turning or getting things outta whack? with all the sensors these things have i want to be sure i don't screw something up... it looks like it will just slide out. i will mark everything before i remove.

any help appreciated!

thanks!

Scott

The drive shaft will just slip out of the transmission. Make sure you mark the drive shaft and differential flange with paint or an marker so they go back together the same way they came off or you might run into vibration problems.

I recommend jacking up the rear, as high as you can, trans fluid will pour out when driveshaft is removed..

Yes jack the rear up to keep the fluid from coming out.

I just recently changed mine and it helped a lot. Took about 15 minutes to change.
