Default Squeal from a dead stop.

My Ranger is an '05 XL 2.3L 2WD. I've noticed that when I start to accelerate from a dead stop, a momentary squeal seems to come from the right-rear of the truck. It lasts maybe a second or two then it goes away. Could it be the brakes sticking? Anything else it could be? Thanks.

is it when you let off the break or when the break is completely released already?

Don't have a video camera.

The brake is completely let off and I've started to accelerate. Only happens when I've come to a complete stop though.

do you have a manual tranny? it is very possible that its your brakes. does it do it every time? the other option is try to come to a stop without using your brakes by using a hill or something, then without ever touching your breaks start moving like you normally would, if it still does it its probably not your brakes.

I clarified my original post a bit. I didn't mean start the engine and go, I just meant when I accelerate from a dead stop.

It's an AT. It does it pretty much every time. I'll try your suggestion and stop without using brakes.

jack the tire off the ground and take the tire off, pull the drum off and look in there see if anything looks messed up, also before you take the tire off try spinning the tire by hand and wiggling it side to side and up and down. listen and feel for things then report back.

Ok I'm pretty sure it's the brakes. I can hold them right when the engine overpowers the brakes and it just barely moves forward and I can re-create the sound and maintain it. Does this mean the shoes need to be replaced? I'm not real familiar with drum brakes.

possibly, you just gotta take the tires off and check the wear, it could just have some grime in there.
