Default 01 ford ranger is sticking in 4 wheel drive sometimes while driving, could

the actuator motor be indexed? it wants to try to engage into 4 hi while driving just wondering if motor can be indexed to further 2 wd?
on thir ranger there is not any lock out hubs straight cv axles. on the back of the actuator motor are 3 set screws were you can index it. switch on dash to change from 2 wd to 4 wd

no you cant index the motor on the transfer case, if its trying to engage its getting a signal thats telling it to engage, but the auto hubs are plastic and dont like abuse and have heard owners say the 4w hi is engaging when actually the hub is the problem causing a clicking or grinding noise that sounds like its coming from the transfer case, you will have to take apart the hubs and inspect them for anything broken, would also make sure the transfer case fluid is full, its automatic transmission fluid not grease( hey bob your the idiot!) the transfer case control has a computer that will store some codes but the 4x4 lite will flash when there is a problem, if its flashing then i suggest the dealership for a proper fix, if its not flashing then i would check the auto hubs, the weak link in the 4x4 system

How old are you? you have a lever in the floor board you push or a button you push it does not have nothing to do with the motor. the only thing could be wrong is the grease in the trans fer case could be low. check the grease . then put in four wheel drive . go down the road about five mile,s it should work.
