Default Fuel problem with my '87 Ranger 2.9L

I just bought a 1987 Ranger so I haven't done much to it yet. One problem it has is when taking off from a stop and im climbing speed at about 30mph it cuts out and acts like its not getting enough fuel. If i give it more gas it jumps and takes off like i dumped the clutch. Every once in awhile when idling it will do the same thing, it will idle strong then out of no where sound likes its about to die then pick back up and be running fine again. i have checked EGR valve and motor and all vacuums and changed fuel filter checked timing and replaced all plugs. as of right now i am leaning towards it being a fuel pump but i haven't had time to take the bed off. Any other ideas?
