Ranger failed emmisions
My 1998 Ranger failed emmisions now I need to spend $200.00+ in order to get a waiver to get licence tabs. I do not know why it failed it is an old truck with 250,000+ miles can somebody suggest what would be the best way to spend the $200.00?

Re: Ranger failed emmisions
is it 98 or 88? your post is different from your sig. If an 88 I don't think they can make you pass emitions for current year. If it does not have factory things as current trucks I don't see how they can inforce that.

Re: Ranger failed emmisions
new spark plugs, spark plug wires, just a basic tune up. then if that don't work get some new cats from a junk yard if possible or new cats.

Re: Ranger failed emmisions
Could be so many things.
I recently failed the inspection on my 2000 jeep XJ, 160k + miles.
Changed out the Cat and oxygen sensors and it passed right away.
So far my Ranger has never failed (knock on wood).
I do tune-ups and oilchanges religiously, but eventually things will fail as the age and mileage gets up there.

Re: Ranger failed emmisions
The 94 Mazda pickup passed smog but failed the evap test. Can you go into more detail with the test, what it measured as more than likely changing 02 sensors and cat with a good tune up will help.
