Default How To: Rod Bearings ????

I recently let my little brother change the oil on my truck and after taking off the old oil filter the seal from the old filter stayed on and i ran my truck outta oil and now the rods are knocking. So now i am wondering if its possible to drop the oil pan and get to the rod bearings or do i need to replace the whole motor??? I hope not being as the truck has 96k miles. Someone please help me. This is my daily drive.

you dont have a broken rod. im thinking you have a spun rod Usually a spun rod bearing is caused from no or low oil pressure. If the cause of the problem was oil pressure, the other bearings, rings, camshaft and shit can be damaged too.

you will need to rebuild. Or get a new engine. Im sorry man

Yeah that is what i figured but the only reason i wanna give the rod bearings a shot is that the truck is still driveable and runs perfectly find. No loss power, no miss, nothing runs perfect. The truck just has a knock under load, no knock when idleing either. But you are most certainly right. I am just prayin that replacing the rod bearings will do it. If it was more than bearings like yah said do you think it would run a bit rough???

I would also pull the engine to inspect everything else. You wouldn't wanna waste your time replacing to find out you have more stuff wrong.

Damn, i havent even owned the truck for more than a month. I cant believe this. And this truck is out on a loan. This sucks. I dont have a cherry picker to even get the motor out. AAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! This is stressing me out big time. I thought going from the bottom and just gettin to the rods from there would work. But hell im 19 years old. I havent been driving long enough that id would even thought i would ever run into this. Guess last what i get for letting an 11 year change oil.

Not yet i havent had a day off. Tomoro is my first day off work so as soon as i get off i am doing it. I work night shift so i sleep my day light away. But first thing when i get outta here is dropping the pan to see whats going on. Im not quite sure what everything i should look for. Obviously the rod bearings themselves but the crank too. How bout the connecting rods??? Could those be harmed also??
