Default Rough Idle

My Ranger runs great, no problems at all except it idles rough.
I changed the plugs and wires.Fuel filter was changed last year.
the check engine light comes on and off.
does not burn oil. When I took it to my local dealer they said # 5 cylinder had low comp. and the best thing I can do is replace the engine!!! I said, your #!*&%/#! nuts.
Does anyone have the same problems

Well hell they need to give you the readings for all six cylinders. There is low compression, and then there is relatively lower compression.
Then there is the diagnostic trouble codes which can narrow things down.
You need to gather this data and put in it the right hands.

For right now all I can offer is that this new plugs/wire set doesn't have the right resistance and that by replacing them you went from rough idle because of worn plugs/wires to rough idle because of a new set that may not match up to what your coils put out. Not using Motorcraft replacements for these parts in particular can have quite an effect. Just search the forum for this topic!
But that's ONE possibility. CyL. #5 comp can't be that low or you couldn't say that "it runs fine but just idles rough."

In the mean time try to avoid taking your truck in to this place for an oil change, or you might be handed another "you need a whole new engine" line.

that makes sense to me,so I went to my local AutoZone and had them check the engine cause the light was on.I was told cyl #5 & 6 was missfiring and said I needed new plugs and wires. So now my question is what is missfire?
Thanks

When all the cylinders aren't firing properly. When you did your plugs last time did you gap them?

Yeah replacing your plugs and wires with an OE setup may resolve your issue.
You now have a a check engine light with the p0305 and p0306 codes plus a diagnosis by the shop you took it to of low compression in cylinder 5. So if plug/wire replacement doesn't resolve the issue it my be something more like worn valve seats, springs, piston rings, etc.
If you didn't have the low compression you could move on to suspect clogged injectors if Autozone's recommendation didn't pan out. It'd be nice if you had the actual readings.

Since I'm not burnining any oil at all wouldn't that indicate that the rings are fine?
Thanks to all you guys for the help

It would indicate that your oil rings are good. Compression rings operate under different conditions even though the two parts are right next to each other.
It's time for you to learn some tests to narrow down the problem.
Are you still having the issue after replacing your plugs and wires with the OE and setting the spark gap correctly?

Don't discount this question. Check your gaps in the mean time.
