Default 91 ranger starter problem!

Got a 91 ranger 2.9 4x4 that had been having starting problems' so I have just been bump starting it. But now it needs fixed. When I turn the key the relay on the pasenger side finder just hums/clicks. Now to let you know it has a new starter about a month old,new relay, and battery. The starter isn't even turning over and my voltidge will drop fast on my battery and the hot and ground posts get Hot! Any thoughts?

I'm having kind of the same problem. Did you figure it out? I'm going to try buying a new battery because I don't know how old mine is. I just bought this truck a few months ago and it's ran fine until now. I heard sometimes the battery can get a cracked plate or something.

It has 190k on the odometer. I used to own an 88 red ranger when I was 19. It was only a 4 banger and had just one fuel tank. I pretty much bought it because it was a great deal and for nostalgia.

When solutions are found it would be nice if those with the problems posted the solutions for the rest of us. The two problems posted here sound like the cable to the starter have been pinched and are grounding to the frame for a dead short. Hence the volt drop.

Default 1988 Same Problem

So what did you find out? I was thinking of removing the solenoid/relay from the fender wall. Perhaps it is arching into the frame somehow. I get the same hot positive battery terninal, but wont turn over. Battery is 100% Even using a screw driver to arch the solenoid leads wont turn this thing over...

It turned out to be the alternator on mine. got one at autozoo for about $80 and they lent me tools and helped me put it in. I should have just gone to them in the first place and had them test it for free instead of driving myself nuts switching batteries and changing fuses. good luck bro.
