Default Brake pedal bouncing and "spronggg" noise.

After a pretty decent snow storm that we had and having driven the truck just fine both in 2wd and 4wd, this morning I was just about at work when I was coming to a stop and the brake pedal made a "spronggggg" noise sort of sounded like a spring or even a motorized noise, and the pedal pushed into my foot a couple of times as the truck came to a stop. This happened the next few times that I brought the truck to a stop. There are no error lights on the dashboard and this is the only time I've ever felt this. It felt like the truck didn't want to stop when this happened and I almost slid into the car in front of me.

2004 ford Ranger Edge 4x4 4.0L 55,000 miles.

Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here?

Thanks!

It sounds like the ABS was operating. My RABS makes a clicking noise when it is operating but no pedal bounce. If you have ABS all the way around, there would be more of an effect on the brake system since the fronts, which have much more braking power, would be activated as well.

Thats your abs kicking in from the sliding when coming to a stop. It happens with all vehicles if you hit the brakes too hard on a slippery surface.

Thanks guys. I think you're right. I guess I just never noticed it. This is my first winter with the truck. My last ranger was a stick and I don't know if it had abs, but I never felt it. I used to use the gears to slow me down a lot in the snow (I miss that). But, I did try it on dry pavement about an hour ago and it is not happening. Only on slippery surface like you said.

Thanks again!

I too have been experiencing similar problem on dry pavement as you have described on icy road conditions. Has anyone else experienced this on dry pavement conditions? What would be the probable cause?
