Default Which synthetic gear oil?

Which oil do you use in your standard transmission and differentials. The only one I can find in my local hardware store is 75W90 weight and is a generic brand name @ $12.00 per liter / US quart. Thanks, Dave

Go to Ford and get the Motorcraft Synthetic, I don't know about your tranny, as I have the manual, so I don't pay attention to them, but I assume the same thing will work. Either Motorcraft, Mobil 1, Lucas, Castrol, basically any name brand synthetic will work great.

Thanks Jack. I checked with our local Canadian Tire Store a couple of days ago and the price has gone from $11.50 per liter (US quart) to $18.50. I was thinking that the $11.50 was too much!!!! I will wait for my next visit to the USA and will purchase enough there to do everything. Good old Canada.......we never get charged what something is worth but rather we are charged whatever the market will bear. Dave

maybe i am missing something, and also I dont know what year or truck you have. but for the most part......5 speeds take Maercon/mercon v and then differentials take 80-90 gear oil.........if youhave a L/S you need the additive.....

how many miles on it? I doubt you need to change it already...the tranny takes Mercon V. do you know if you have a LS? I think the differential just take premium 80-90.

I changed the rear end oil and tranny fluid on my 2010 at about 2000 mi. Yes, there was a lot of metallic look to both fluids. I put Mobil 1 Syn 75W90 in the rear gear and Mobil 1 Syn ATF in the transmission.

I wonder if that voids the warranty?

According to Mobil, both meet the specs. Mobil 1 atf says Mercon V compatible. I was wanting to get all the break in crud out of the units. Have about 7800 mi. now and probably 2500 mi. towing a boat. Will change out these fluids again after a 30,000 mi. run.

I do USE this truck, but I take care of it. I like it and want it last a long time.

Was glad to see modelageek pointed out that the manual tranny took ATF.

Actually Danforth, next time I am going to use Amsoil Syn. in the rear gear, and try their Syn. ATF (Mercon V) in the tranny.

Thanks guys. I learned a few things here. I would have checked the manual but never would have guessed that the manual tranny took ATF! I am heading Stateside soon so will stock up. Dave
